Our tools in life can make a difference in how we experience the world around us. These tools can be physical items, skills, thoughts, and anything else we use to navigate our way through life. We are always growing our tool boxes – through experience, through education, through personal transformation. We use many tools in life. Tools for self care. Tools for coping. Tools for our professions. Tools for our hobbies.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite kitchen tools! I use these on a regular basis, and I am grateful to have them in my kitchen tool box. Good kitchen items don’t always have to be expensive, and they can make a difference in your whole cooking experience. Check them out… You will love them, too!
1 – Crock-Pot Slow Cooker
Everyone needs a slow cooker! I have two that I use regularly, including the one above. I recommend at least a 6 quart cooker to hold your favorite soups, roasts, pork loin and much more! With a slow cooker, I can prep in the morning (or often the night before!) and come home in the evening to a delicious meal.
2 – Glass Mixing Bowls with Lids
I LOVE these Pyrex glass mixing bowls with lids. They seal well and nest for easy storage. I used to always use plastic bowls, but after trying these I am hooked! I use them for prep work and for storage. They can go in a preheated oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, and freezer. This versatility has saved me time and extra clean-up (and I don’t like doing dishes!) BPA-free lids that can go on the dishwasher top rack, too. New favorite!
3 – Cutting Boards
I highly recommend quality cutting boards with juice grooves to catch any extra juices that flow from your veggies and meats. Grooves help with counter cleanup and can reduce contamination from meat juices. It is essential to have more than one cutting board. You do not want to cut your meat and vegetables on the same board, which has potential for contamination! I also appreciate that I can put these into the dishwasher to help sanitize after prep work. I don’t recommend using glass boards, as they can dull knives.
4 – Cast Iron Skillet
I love my cast iron skillet! This is the go-to pan for my secret homemade cornbread family recipe, passed down for generations. I love it for recipes that go from stovetop into the oven. It is great for frying, too… try it for your bacon!
5 – Quality Baking Sheets
I use my Wilton baking sheets all the time. My favorite tool for evenly roasting asparagus and other vegetables in the oven. Great for your homemade cookies and other tasty baked treats. The non-stick coating on these pans lasts, and Wilton typically offers a warranty on their products.
